Cape Fear Treasures: Campaigning at Cape Fear Museum in Wilmington, NC, allows visitors to see a small selection of the Museum’s collection of political artifacts from past campaigns. The exhibit includes photographs, badges, posters, postcards, buttons, matchbooks, bumper stickers, yard signs, and even a thimble. Among the artifacts on display are Rutherford B. Hayes’ 1876 presidential campaign button, an 1884 Cleveland campaign ribbon, a 1976 Jimmy Carter political button, and an editorial cartoon on toilet paper commenting on North Carolina U.S. Senator Jesse Helms’ tenure.
