Description:
Big Sweep began as a beach cleanup in 1987 and is now an annual event in North Carolina. Since its inception, more than 192,000 volunteers have retrieved over six million pounds of debris from state waterways. Big Sweep is part of the International Coastal Cleanup that involves approximately 90 countries and 55 states and territories. Locally, the event is sponsored by Keep America Beautiful of New Hanover County, the Town of Wrightsville Beach, the Town of Carolina Beach, Island Women, the Pleasure Island Parrotheads, the Town of Kure Beach, the City of Wilmington and Cape Fear River Watch. Volunteers are asked to come prepared to be outdoors: wear sunscreen, sturdy closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Help reduce the amount of waste at the event by bringing your own reusable water bottle and gloves if you have them. REGISTER ONLINE.
