Description:
The 33rd Annual North Carolina Jazz Festival at the Hilton in downtown Wilmington, NC, opens Thursday night with three hours of different styles of jazz. Friday and Saturday nights return with seven sets of jazz with a different leader for each set. All-star musicians include Rossano Sportiello, David Boeddinghaus, Bucky Pizzarelli, Frank Bongiorno and Jonathan Russell. PURCHASE TICKETS ONLINE.
HIGHLIGHTS
Thursday: Strings -- A duet by guitartist Bucky Pizzarelli (age 87) and violinist Jonathan Russell (age 17) followed by Frank Bongiorno and a 10-piece ensemble paying tribute to Charlie Parker. Afterward, the sounds of New Orleans fills the ballroom.
Friday and Saturday: All-Star musicians playing their versions of classic jazz tunes. Concerts start at 7:30 and go until midnight.
