Description:
The Wine Series at The Balcony on Dock Street in downtown Wilmington, NC, presents The Loire, perhaps one of the most diverse regions of production in all of France. The valley contains 50 appellations producing red and white wines, still and sparkling wines, sweet and dry wines and roses, as well. The Loire River and the valley is the longest in France, spanning some 600 miles. It stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to just east of the Rhone. Tonight's focus will be on the main appellations, sampling both red and white wines. The principle varietals participants will get to know are Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Melon de Bourgogne and Cabernet Franc. Each of these offers a distinct expression of the appellations terroir.
