Description:

Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, NC, features Julie VonDerVellen -- Tailored Narratives. A recent MFA graduate from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, the artist uses close inspection of seemingly pedestrian garments of everyday wear to reveal highly crafted, intricate constructions made entirely of handmade paper derived from recycled cotton clothing. This thoughtful reuse of materials is given additional layers of meaning through the words and sentences found on many of the paper's components, revealing stories of identity, status, humanity and memory. OPEN TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY, 11am to 5pm (THURSDAY, 11am to 9pm).
