Sustainability Week at UNCW includes the following events:
Locally Inspired Lunch (Wednesday, 11am-1:30pm, Wagoner Dining Hall): Foodies can peruse sustainability exhibits while savoring a lunch of locally-grown ingredients and talking to a local farmer.
Service Project: Oozeball Tournament Recycling/ Clean-up (Saturday, 8am, Gazebo fields behind the Student Recreation Center): Volunteers will help keep campus clean by recycling and throwing away trash during and after the tournament. According to WebEcoist, recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to power a television for three hours.
Bike Ride on Cross City Trail to Mayfaire for a showing of the Disney film Chimpanzee (Saturday, 3pm): A caravan of the campus community will trek to the movies on bicycles to see a movie together.
No Power Hour and Meteor Shower (Sunday, 9-10pm, The Crossing on UNCW campus): For one hour, UNCW will turn off a portion of its power sources and will encourage the campus to do the same while enjoying the night’s meteor shower together. According to the 1E Energy Awareness Campaign, if the whole world turned off their PC’s for one night, it would save enough energy to light up the Empire State Building for more than 30 years.
