Fort Fisher State Historic Site in Kure Beach, NC, hosts the first of three 2nd Saturday programs open to the public this summer season. Model Military: Visualizing History in Scale spotlights the use of models and miniatures in creating history in a scale format. Local artisans and hobbyists with Eastern Carolina Plastic Modelers will display their creations and discuss model research and hobby tips. Acclaimed Civil War author and historian Michael Hardy signs his books in the visitor’s center. The fort’s 12-pound Napoleon cannon will be fired throughout the day and costumed tours of the fort’s remaining earthworks will be given at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm. OPENING HOURS: 9am to 5pm.
