Description:
Screening at Thalian Hall in downtown Wilmington as part of Cinematique's 20th Anniversary Celebration, Chaplin is based in part on Charlie Chaplin's memoir, My Autobiography. An amusing and dramatic biopic featuring Robert Downey Jr. in the title role, and an all-star cast, the film flashes back as an elderly Chaplin discusses his autobiography with his editor (Anthony Hopkins), who urges him to be more open and emotionally honest while trekking through his underprivileged childhood, closest friendships, many marriages, his oppressive pursuit by J. Edgar Hoover (Kevin Dunn), and ingenious invention of The Little Tramp. Actress Moira Kelly, who plays one of Chaplin's wives, will be in attendance to introduce the film.
Running time: 2 hours, 24 minutes. Rated PG-13.
